B i o g r a p h y

Mr. Marshall is a professional cellist and educator based in Tucson, Arizona. He has been playing cello for over 20 years and has taught privately for 11. Mr. Marshall received his masters of music from the University of Arizona’s Fred Fox School of Music in cello performance, and his bachelor’s of music performance from Kennesaw State University. 

 

Robert is the assistant principal cellist of the Sierra Vista Symphony Orchestra and appears regularly with the Tucson Symphony, Tucson Pops, and Souther Arizona Symphony Orchestras. Mr. Marshall also performs with local theaters, including Arizona Repertory Theater, Arizona Theatre Company, Broadway Tucson, and the Rogue Theatre. 

 

Highlights of Mr. Marshall’s music career include performing chamber music at the InnerHarmony Music Festival in Aqui Terme, Italy during the summer of 2021, as well as at the Talis Festival and Academy in Saas-Fee, Switzerland with members of the Royal Concertgebauw and Royal Stockholm Philharmonic in 2016. He was a part of the inaugural orchestral performance at The People’s Theatre in Xi’an, China and and has worked with the St. Lawrence, Chiara, and Escher String Quartets in their summer festival programs. Mr. Marshall is also passionate about new music, having given regional premieres of works by Sara Hennies, Russell Ronnebaum, Nicole Chamberlain, and Bob Atwell.

 

Past teachers include Dr. Theodore Buchholz, Charae Krueger, Dr. Robert Jesselson, and Mary Kenney. He has performed in masterclasses for Sharon Robinson, Joshua Roman, Jussi Makkonen, Harvey Wolf, Jesus Castrobalbi, Mike Mermagen, David Ying, Jeffery Solow, Seun Thornsteinsdottir, and Misha Quint.
